"The sky's the limit."

A little over 2 years ago I started this company.  A year ago this month, I was fully funded on Kickstarter, which helped me take things to the next level by starting to work with domestic factories. This had two purposes: 1) increased productivity and 2) an ability to start acting on my convictions. You see, when I used to work as a designer for a corporate company, I learned a lot about the way the fashion industry works. Once the excitement of actually being paid to design stuff wore off, I began to see the not-so-glamorous-side of the industry. At first it was interesting. I wanted to learn everything and was fascinated by the entire process. But, then I started to understand how fast fashion is possible. It's not pretty, not for the factory workers overseas working long hours and receiving meager pay and not for the designers having to constantly vomit out new ideas (or figure out ways to legally copy other designers), all for the sake of newness at cheap price points.


I'm telling you all of this because these were the reasons I decided to take a leap of faith and start something, even though I felt totally over my head at the time (and still a lot of the time, haha). It hasn't been easy, but I've been able to sleep at night, knowing that at least I've TRIED. To quote President Obama, I at least put myself in the arena.


And as I watched Hillary accept the nomination last night, it was with tears in my eyes. Here's a woman who has fought tooth and nail for the things she believes in, often at her own expense.  Nobody likes an opinionated woman. Especially when her opinions are an inconvenience.


It baffles me that she has had the strength to keep going, despite all of the haters over the years. I wish I could tell her that last night inspired me to keep pushing forward, even when men give me a weird look when I tell them I design menswear (heaven forbid!), even when most people could care less about sustainability or things being American made, and even when people tell me that my products are irrelevant. You'll never win 'em all, but you can ignore the haters. Here's to you, Hillary.
